April ends on chilly note:
Temperatures dipped into the 20s this past weekend making it difficult for grain farmers to plant corn in the immediate future. Also, persistent precipitation is keeping the soil cold and wet. Worth County Extension Education Director Dennis Johnson suggests that it will take some warm sunshine and no more rain before planting begins in most areas of Worth County. Area farmers try to have their corn planted by May 10 but it may take more time this year. The above photograph was taken at sunset looking over the Shell Rock River towards Mark’s Hill. |
